BMW Announces Pricing for 2014 X5 SAV

6/25/2013
In 1999, BMW introduced its first sport utility vehicle--the X5--to mixed reviews from sports car enthusiasts and auto magazines. However, since its first year on the market, BMW's "Sport Activity Vehicle," as the automaker terms it, has sold more than 1.3 million units.

This week, BMW announced that its third-generation 2014 X5 midsize premium crossover will begin reaching U.S. showrooms in the fourth quarter of 2013 with what the German automaker says will include a new standard of luxury and driving dynamics.

The newest member of the third-generation X5 family will be a first-time rear-wheel-drive (RWD) X5 sDrive35i that will have a starting MSRP of $53,725. In addition, three all-wheel-drive (AWD) models with beginning MSRPs include:

  • 2014 BMW X5 xDrive35i--$56,025
  • 2014 BMW X5 xDrive35d (diesel)--$57,525
  • 2014 BMW X5 xDrive50i--$69,125

The new X5 sDrive35i and the X5 xDrive35i will be powered by BMW's 3.0-liter, turbo inline-6 engines, while the X5 xDrive50i will use BMW's latest 4.4-liter turbocharged V-8. All models are mated with 8-speed automatic transmissions. BMW's auto start/stop system is standard. BMW's latest SAV has 40/20/40 split-folding rear seats and now features standard speed-sensitive power steering.

The latest generation of X5 models also include BMW's navigation system with real-time traffic updates. Telematics in the car also include mobile-office functions and BMW's own apps. The apps allow the driver to access tools such as Twitter and Facebook, but only with an iPhone. In addition, BMW includes its 10-year BMW Assist eCall service and TeleService features.

For consumers interested in adding their own touch to the X5, BMW also will offer the Luxury Line, xLine or M Sport with two Interior Design packages, available in Ivory White and Mocha. A special Dynamic Handling package also will be offered with Active Roll Stabilization.

During the first five months of 2013, sales of the X5 in the U.S. market have climbed by more than 2,000 units to 18,053 vs. 15,966 unit sales in the same period a year ago, based on J.D. Power analysis.
