General Motors Recalls Nearly 3,000 Vehicles for Air Bag Problem
In these vehicles, the air bag is equipped with a shorting bar, which, in the affected vehicles, may intermittently contact the air bag terminals. If the bar is in contact with the terminals during a crash, the driver's side air bag will not deploy, increasing the risk of injury.
To resolve the problem, General Motors will replace the steering wheel air bag coil in the affected vehicles free of charge. The schedule for repairs has not been set as this notification is written, and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has not yet defined when the affected vehicles were produced.
Owners can call the NHTSA at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) and reference campaign ID number 12V522000. Alternatively, Verano, Cruze and Sonic owners can contact General Motors at 1-800-521-7300 and reference recall number 12261.
