2014 Audi R8 Arrives in Detroit with More Power, Less Weight
"Coming off the momentum we've built with the launch of the all-new Audi S models, the new Audi R8 and RS 5 Cabriolet further invigorate the next chapter of our Audi performance models," said Scott Keogh, President, Audi of America. "We know that driving enthusiasts are excited to have these cars come to our shores, but they will be even more thrilled to know this is just the beginning."
The 2014 Audi R8 arrives with subtle styling changes, including standard LED headlights, revised grille, new side mirrors, taillights with dynamic turn signal indicators, and round exhaust outlets. Three models are offered: R8 V8 4.2, R8 V10 5.2, and the new R8 V10 Plus 5.2. Each model is equipped with a standard 6-speed gated manual transmission or a new optional 7-speed S-tronic double-clutch automated manual gearbox.
The 2014 Audi R8 V8 4.2 makes 430 horsepower and 317 lb.-ft. of torque, enough to accelerate the vehicle to 60 mph in as little as 4.2 seconds, according to Audi. The company claims the top speed is 186 mph. For added power and performance, the 2014 Audi R8 V10 5.2 supplies 525 horsepower, 391 lb.-ft. of torque, acceleration to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds, and a 195-mph top speed. Each of these variants is available as a coupe or a Spyder model.
The new 2014 Audi R8 V10 Plus 5.2 is only sold as a coupe. The engine is enhanced to develop 550 horsepower and 398 lb.-ft. of torque, and the R8 V10 Plus 5.2 weighs about 100 pounds less than the R8 V10 5.2, thanks to carbon fiber aerodynamic trim elements, manual seats wrapped in Alcantara material, ceramic braking components, and a smaller fuel tank. As a result of the extra power and weight savings, the R8 V10 Plus 5.2 accelerates to 60 mph in 3.3 seconds and achieves a top speed of 198 mph, according to Audi.
