By: Philly Murtha, 12/4/2013
Volkswagen is producing 1,000 limited-edition Touareg X clean diesel vehicles to celebrate the 10 years that Europe's largest automaker has built and sold the midsize crossover. The 2014 Touareg X will sell for a suggested MSRP of $56,170 (excluding  $910 handling and destination fee).

Features on the special-edition CUV, equipped with a clean diesel powertrain, include 19-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, a Moonlight Blue pearl exterior paint finish, LED taillamps, and special Touareg X badging. The interior treatment will include Black Anthracite leather seating with ebony wood accents on the dashboard and doors to complement the black center console. Aluminum doorsill scuff plates are illuminated and pedal covers have an aluminum appearance.

The Touareg X is powered by a 3.0-liter, turbocharged, direct-injection V-6 diesel engine that produces 240 horsepower and 406 lb.-ft. of torque. The engine is mated with an 8-speed automatic transmission and achieves an EPA-estimated 29 mpg on the highway. All-wheel drive is standard on the Touareg and special-edition Touareg X models.

Other standard features on the Touareg X include a panoramic sunroof; keyless access with push-button start; LED daytime running lights; special navigation system with an 8-inch color touch screen; and for safety, a rearview camera. Bluetooth technology is also included along with 12-way powered and heated front seats and driver seat memory. The crossover also features a leather-wrapped steering wheel.

Volkswagen claims that it has sold 121,385 Touaregs in the U.S. market and that more than 700,000 of the midsize CUVs have been delivered worldwide.
