2014 F-Type is the First New Sports Car from Jaguar in 50 Years

9/27/2012
The 2014 Jaguar F-Type debuted at the 2012 Paris Motor Show, the first new sports car the storied brand has produced in 50 years. About the same size as a Porsche 911, the new Jaguar F-Type offers two seats, a fabric convertible top, and a trio of supercharged engine choices. It is slated to go on sale in the United States in time for the summer of 2013.

The new 2014 F-Type is available in V6, S and V8 S model designations. The F-Type V6 is equipped with a supercharged, 340-horsepower, 3.0-liter V-6 engine, while the F-Type S gets a more powerful 380-horsepower version of that same V-6. The V8 S model is equipped with a 495-horsepower, supercharged 5.0-liter V-8.

An 8-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters is standard, driving the rear wheels. The F-Type V8 S accelerates to 60 mph in 4.2 seconds, according to Jaguar, and can attain a top speed of 186 mph. While performance is a key ingredient in the F-Type recipe, Jaguar engineered the car with an eye toward maximizing fuel economy, as well. To that end, an automatic stop/start system is standard.

The new Jaguar F-Type is equipped with a triple-layer convertible top that folds in 12 seconds and can be lowered or raised at speeds up to 30 mph. Jaguar says the F-Type's interior is purposely designed to be driver-oriented, and the car is offered with an optional 770-watt Meridian premium audio system that creates individual surround-sound effects for the driver and passenger.
