GM Full-Size Trucks, SUVs and Vans Recalled for Transmission Problem
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), these vehicles may have been built using a fractured park lock cable or a malformed steering column lock actuator gear, which allows them to be shifted out of Park when the ignition key is in the "Off" position or when the key is removed from the steering column. When the key is in the "Off" position, the transmission can also be shifted out of Park without applying the brake pedal.
Because this may lead to a crash, dealerships will inspect the vehicles and, if necessary, replace the steering column free of charge. The recall is expected to begin on January 17, 2013. Concerned owners can contact Chevrolet, Cadillac, or GMC at the phone numbers provided below, making sure to reference GM recall number 12331, or NHTSA Campaign ID Number 13V001000.
