2013 Dodge Dart GT Adds Power and Performance to Compact Car Segment

1/8/2013
At the 2013 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Dodge will introduce the 2013 Dart GT. Originally slated to arrive as the Dart R/T, the new Dart GT is equipped with a 184-horsepower 4-cylinder engine, 18-inch aluminum wheels, sport-tuned suspension, and standard perforated premium leather upholstery. Dodge says it "continues to investigate a high-performance R/T model."

The original Dodge Dart GT went on sale 50 years ago and was equipped with sportier styling and a heavy-duty suspension that, for the era, delivered better ride quality and improved handling compared with the base model Dodge Dart.

The new 2013 Dart GT adheres to that classic composition, while adding a new 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine that generates 184 horsepower and 174 lb.-ft. of torque, and which can be paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox or 6-speed automatic transmission with manual shifting capability. Additional hardware upgrades include a sport suspension with frequency-dampening shock absorbers that Dodge says will "deliver ride and handling attributes designed to cater to driving enthusiasts."

Styling changes include a restyled front fascia equipped with a Hyper Black crosshair grille, Black Chrome headlight trim, unique Satin Silver 18-inch aluminum wheels, body-color door handles, and integrated dual exhaust outlets with chrome tips. Buyers can select an optional Hyper Black wheel color. Fog lights and "racetrack" LED taillights are standard on the Dart GT.

Inside, the Dart GT is equipped with standard perforated premium Nappa leather seats in a choice of either black with red stitching or black with Ruby Red perforation accents. A Uconnect 8.4 multi-media touch-screen display is standard, as well as heated exterior mirrors, heated front seats, heated steering wheel, dual-zone automatic climate control, 10-way power driver seat, and a reversing camera.

Options offered for the Dart GT include a Technology Group option package that contains Keyless Enter 'N Go with push-button ignition, blind-spot monitoring system with rear cross-path detection, Smart Beam headlights, and rain-sensing wipers. Additional extra-cost upgrades include a power sunroof, navigation system, and premium sound system with 10 speakers.

According to Reid Bigland, President and CEO Dodge Brand, "The new Dart GT embodies the best attributes that compact car buyers are looking for, including outstanding style, performance, technology and value, [and] represents the sweet spot in the compact car market, offering mid-size roominess combined with premium amenities for only $20,995 MSRP."

The new 2013 Dodge Dart GT goes on sale before summer.
