2014 Ford Fusion Has New Engine, Technology, Conveniences

4/25/2013
Although the redesigned Ford Fusion is less than a year old, the automaker is making several changes to the popular midsize family sedan for the 2014 model year. The 2014 Fusion lineup expands with the addition of a new Fusion Hybrid S model offering fewer standard features and a lower price tag. Ford is replacing its turbocharged 1.6-liter EcoBoost engine with a new turbocharged, 1.5-liter EcoBoost power plant, adding new safety and convenience technologies, and introducing new colors.

Because Ford's global customers can derive significant tax benefits when buying vehicles with engines displacing 1.5 liters or less, a new direct-injection, 1.5-liter EcoBoost 4-cylinder engine replaces the existing 1.6-liter EcoBoost 4-cylinder engine in all vehicles in which it is paired with an automatic transmission. If the buyer prefers a manual gearbox, Ford will continue to offer the 1.6-liter EcoBoost.

Horsepower and torque estimates for the new 1.5-liter EcoBoost are 177 and 177, respectively. This is similar to the existing 1.6-liter engine, which generates 178 horsepower and 184 lb.-ft. of torque, and Ford says fuel economy will improve with the new engine.

New options available on the 2014 Ford Fusion include inflatable rear seat belts, a heated steering wheel, ventilated front seats, and summer performance tires. The SE Luxury package includes a passive keyless entry and push-button ignition system with remote engine starting. A new Brick Red Premium Leather package is also offered.

Rounding out the updates for the 2014 Fusion are new colors. Ginger Ale and Bordeaux Reserve are out, while Dark Side and Sunset are in. Buyers selecting Sterling Gray paint can now get a Dune interior, and the 2014 Fusion Titanium may be equipped with a new Soft Ceramic interior color choice.
