Volvo S60 Polestar Concept Generates 500+ Horsepower
"This is Polestar's interpretation of the Volvo S60," says Christian Dahl, founder and CEO of Polestar. "It's a car developed with our own preferences in mind--although we know they are also shared by active drivers."
Jan Andersson, chief engineer at Polestar, elaborates: "We approached this project by looking at the production Volvo S60 as a platform for a potential race car--and the culmination of that data went into the design of the S60 Polestar Concept."
Polestar began with a standard-issue Volvo S60 T6 AWD with a turbocharged, 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder engine that delivers 300 horsepower and 325 lb.-ft. of torque. Tuning the powertrain to produce 508 horsepower and 424 lb.-ft. of torque, Polestar fortified the concept vehicle with a revised all-wheel-drive system, freer-breathing exhaust system, and a chassis that is lower, wider and stronger to handle the added power.
The result? The S60 Polestar Concept accelerates to 60 mph in approximately 3.8 seconds and can achieve a top speed of nearly 190 mph, according to the company. Volvo Polestar racing driver Robert Dahlgren said, "It is, by far, the most impressive street Volvo I've ever driven. But I must also say that the genuine Volvo feeling is still there."
