2014 Accord Hybrid Expected to Get 49 MPG, Says Honda

6/21/2013
When the new 2014 Honda Accord Hybrid goes on sale this fall, it is expected to return 49 mpg in the city, 45 mpg on the highway, and 47 mpg in combined driving, according to the automaker's projections. The new Accord Hybrid will slot into the lineup beneath the existing 2014 Accord Plug-in Hybrid model.

At its heart, the Accord Hybrid is equipped with a new 2-motor gas-electric hybrid powertrain that offers three driver-selected driving modes. In EV Drive, the car draws energy from its lithium-ion battery to operate solely on electricity at lower speeds or when cruising at moderate speeds. In Hybrid Drive, the 2.0-liter 4-cylinder gasoline engine and the 124-kW electric motor work together to produce a blend of efficiency and powerful acceleration, according to Honda. In Engine Drive, the 4-cylinder gasoline engine powers the front wheels.

Offered only as a 4-door sedan, the Accord Hybrid is differentiated from other Accord models by its unique aluminum wheels, blue accents for the grille and lighting, LED running lights, and a decklid lip spoiler to improve aerodynamics.

Inside, the new Accord Hybrid is a well-appointed vehicle. In addition to unique instrumentation pertaining to fuel economy and powertrain energy flow, the Accord Hybrid comes standard with perforated leather seats, Bluetooth with streaming audio capability, HondaLink infotainment services, Pandora Internet radio, and satellite radio. Safety features include new SmartVent side-impact air bag designs, reversing camera, LaneWatch blind-spot display, lane-departure warning system, and a forward-collision warning system.

The new Accord Hybrid goes on sale in October 2013. Prices will be announced at a later date.
