Toyota Issues Big Recall for Power Window Switches
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), when some of the recalled vehicles were built, an imprecise process was used to lubricate the internal components of the power window master switch assemblies. As a result, the switch may malfunction, overheat, and melt, which could cause a fire.
Toyota, as well as General Motors, which sold one of the affected models, will notify vehicle owners, and dealers will inspect the power window master switch assemblies. A special grease designed to inhibit heat build-up may be applied, or the dealer may replace the assembly at no cost.
The NHTSA campaign ID number for this recall is 12V491000, and concerned owners can contact Toyota at 1-800-331-4331 or General Motors at 1-800-762-2737.
