2012 Hyundai Azera Named "Top Safety Pick" by IIHS

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) yesterday announced that the redesigned 2012 Hyundai Azera is a "Top Safety Pick" for its ability to protect occupants in a collision. In crash tests conducted by the IIHS, the Azera received "Good" ratings--the highest possible--for frontal-offset and side-impact protection; roof crush strength;  and rear-impact protection, a test designed to assess how well a vehicle prevents whiplash injury.

The 2012 Azera is a full- family sedan that slots between the Sonata mid sedan and the Genesis entry-luxury sedan in Hyundai's lineup. All new for 2012, the Azera is offered in a single trim level for $32,875, including the destination charge.

Nine air bags are standard on the Azera, including side-impact air bags in the rear seat and a driver knee air bag. Other standard safety features on the 2012 Azera include traction and stability control, 4-wheel-disc anti-lock brakes with brake assist, front seats designed to reduce impact force in a rear collision, and a reversing camera. Rear parking-assist sensors are optional.
