New 2014 Audi SQ5 Debuts in Detroit, Aimed at Driving Enthusiasts

1/9/2013
A new version of the Audi Q5 goes on sale next year, aimed at driving enthusiasts interested in a 5-passenger crossover luxury SUV that can accelerate to 60 mph in less than 5.3 seconds and reach a governed top speed of 155 mph. The new 2014 Audi SQ5 goes on sale in the third quarter of 2013.

The 2014 Audi SQ5 is equipped with a supercharged, 3.0-liter V-6 engine that supplies 354 horsepower between 6,000 rpm and 6,500 rpm, and 347 lb.-ft. of torque between 4,000 rpm and 4,500 rpm. An 8-speed automatic transmission feeds power to a standard Quattro all-wheel-drive system equipped with rear torque-vectoring capability.

Additional mechanical upgrades include a sport-tuned suspension and a set of unique 20-inch aluminum wheels with 255/45 tires. Audi will offer 21-inch wheels as an option. Dynamic Steering is optional, equipped with a steplessly variable ratio with different settings supplied by the Audi Drive Select system.

To help ensure that the 2014 SQ5 stands apart from other Q5 models, Audi has restyled the front and rear bumpers, added a unique Platinum Gray grille with crossbars finished in Alu-Optic trim, and punctuated the rear of the SUV with new quad exhaust outlets. Xenon Plus headlights with LED running lights are standard on the SQ5, which is tailored with Alu-Optic and Gloss Black exterior trim and offers optional crystal-effect paint colors called Estoril Blue and Panther Black. A rear roof spoiler, fender badges emblazoned with "V6T," and brake calipers stamped with "SQ5" complete the exterior modifications.

Inside, the 2014 SQ5 provides power-adjustable front sport seats wrapped in premium leather with Alcantara inserts. Offered in four different colors, they face a black dashboard equipped with gray-faced gauges marked by white numerals. Alu-Optic trim is used for the foot pedals and shifter paddles, and the dashboard features brushed aluminum inlays. Optional trim includes Carbon Atlas, Piano Black, and a layered aluminum and wood treatment in Beaufort Black.

Audi promises a lengthy list of standard features for the 2014 SQ5. Options will include MMI Navigation Plus and Audi Connect with Bluetooth calling and music streaming, and mobile Internet services.
