Fiat Gucci Edition Arrives Just in Time for Summer

6/13/2013
Guccio Gucci founded his Italian fashion brand in Florence, Italy, in 1921. Now, more than 90 years later, his name is used to denote luxurious limited-production versions of the Fiat 500 and 500c models. Jennifer Lopez famously hawked the first Fiat 500 by Gucci Edition, which Fiat claims was the fastest-selling 500 model the company ever offered. This time around, the automaker is likely to take a more discrete approach.

Jason Stoicevich, Head of Fiat Brand North America - Chrysler Group LLC, said: "The success of the Fiat 500 by Gucci demonstrates that there is a clientele in America that appreciates and demands high-quality small cars loaded with the craftsmanship, technology and the style that only the Italians can offer."

The 2013 Fiat 500 by Gucci Edition goes on sale in June, starting at $24,550 for the 3-door hatchback and $28,550 for the 2-door convertible. These prices include the $800 destination charge. Both versions are equipped with the Fiat 500's standard 101-horsepower, 1.4-liter 4-cylinder engine and optional 6-speed automatic transmission. Premium fuel is required, and fuel economy measures 27 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway.

What makes the Gucci Edition special are its retro-themed and color-keyed 15-inch aluminum wheels, darkened headlights, green brake pads, signature red and green exterior striping, chrome or satin exterior trim, and chrome cursive "Gucci" badges. Inside, the Gucci Edition gets premium Poltrona Frau leather seats with "Guccissima" print, an extended leather treatment including the steering wheel and door panels, and what the automaker describes as a "velvety varnish" on the dashboard. The car is offered with black or white paint, and with a black interior accented by chrome or satin trim. A two-tone cabin treatment is also available.
