The 2012 model year SUVs and crossovers (CUVs) listed below, in alphabetical order, received both an overall 4-star or 5-star crash-test rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and a "Top Safety Pick" designation from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). For each, we have highlighted specific standard or optional safety features.


2012 Chevrolet Equinox
The 2012 Chevy Equinox is a 5-passenger crossover SUV equipped with 6 standard air bags, 4-wheel-disc anti-lock brakes with brake assist, hill-start assist, traction control, and stability control with trailer sway control. OnStar telematics with Automatic Crash Notification service is also standard, speeding rescuers to the SUV's location when the air bags deploy.
