5 Fast Facts About the 2013 Lexus ES

When Lexus decided it was going to redesign the ES midsize luxury sedan for the 2013 model year, one of the company's most popular vehicles, the automaker wanted the vehicle to be more fun to drive, more comfortable, and more fuel efficient than before. The result is the new 2013 Lexus ES 350 and Lexus ES 300h, models equipped with the new Lexus spindle grille design and standard Enform smartphone pairing technology. Here are 5 additional fast facts about the redesigned 2013 Lexus ES.

1. For 2013, the Lexus ES models are no longer built on the Toyota Camry platform, sharing instead the same underpinnings as the larger Toyota Avalon. As a result, the new 2013 Lexus ES provides 4.1 extra inches of rear seat legroom compared to the vehicle it replaces.

2. The Lexus ES 350 is equipped with a 3.5-liter V-6 engine generating 268 horsepower. The vehicle has front-wheel drive and 6-speed automatic transmission. According to Lexus, the 2013 ES 350 will accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 7.1 seconds.

3. The Lexus ES 300h is a new gas-electric hybrid model rated to return 40 mpg in combined driving. It pairs a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine with an electric assist motor, a nickel-metal hydride battery package, and a continuously variable transmission (CVT). Combined, total system output delivers 200 horsepower.

4. As standard equipment, Lexus installs NuLuxe synthetic leather seats in the 2013 ES. Leather and premium semi-aniline leather are options. Additional upgrades include heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a hard-drive navigation system, a panoramic glass sunroof, a power rear window sunshade, a premium audio system, and an Intuitive Parking Assist system. The ES 300h is exclusively offered with bamboo interior trim.

5. The new 2013 ES receives a 5-star overall crash-test rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), and is named a "Top Safety Pick" by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Standard safety equipment includes 10 air bags, Whiplash Injury Lessening front head restraints, Smart Stop brakes that make it impossible for the vehicle to accelerate if the brake pedal is pressed while the brakes are engaged, and a year of free Lexus Safety Connect service, including Automatic Collision Notification. Options include a Dynamic Radar Cruise Control with Pre-Collision System, a Blind Spot Monitor, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and Lane Departure Alert. The ES is also available with a reversing camera, rain-sensing wipers, and parking assist sensors.
