The following 2012 model year luxury SUV's and crossovers (CUVs), listed in alphabetical order, were named a "Top Safety Pick" by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and also received a 4-star or 5-star overall crash-test rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). For each model, we highlight standard and optional safety equipment.

2012 Acura MDX The 2012 Acura MDX is a 7-passenger midsize crossover SUV. Standard safety features include 6 air bags, 4-wheel-disc anti-lock brakes with brake assist, traction control, and a stability control system with trailer sway control. The optional Technology package includes a multi-view reversing camera, and the optional Advance package adds a blind-spot monitoring system, adaptive cruise control system, and Collision Mitigation Braking.

2012 Buick Enclave The 2012 Buick Enclave is a full-size crossover SUV with 8-passenger seating. In addition to 6 air bags, 4-wheel-disc anti-lock brakes with brake assist, hill-assist, and a traction and stability control system, the Enclave is equipped with standard OnStar telematics with Automatic Crash Response, which activates if the air bags deploy and helps to speed rescuers to the SUV's location. All trims except the base model have a standard reversing camera and rear park-assist sensors. Articulating headlights are optional.

2012 Cadillac SRX The 2012 Cadillac SRX is a 5-passenger crossover SUV equipped with 6 air bags, standard traction and stability control systems, and On elematics with Automatic Crash Response service, which automatically contacts assistance when the air bags deploy, getting help to the scene of the accident as quickly as possible. All trims except the base model have front and rear park-assist sensors and a reversing camera, and articulating headlights are optional.

2012 Lexus RX The 2012 Lexus RX is a 5-passenger crossover SUV offered in standard RX 350 trim or as a gas/electric hybrid called the RX 450h. Ten air bags are standard, as well as 4-wheel-disc anti-lock brakes with brake assist and Smart Stop technology that is designed to make it impossible for the vehicle to accelerate with the brake pedal pressed. Traction control, stability control, and hill-assist are also standard, as well as Lexus Enform telematics with Safety Connect service. One feature of Safety Connect is that it contacts emergency personnel in the event of an air bag deployment, speeding rescuers to the RX's exact location. A reversing camera, articulating headlights, and a Pre-Collision System (PCS) with Dynamic Radar Cruise Control are optional.

2012 Lincoln MKX The 2012 Lincoln MKX is a 5-passenger crossover SUV equipped with standard 4-wheel-disc anti-lock brakes with brake assist, traction and stability control, and 6 air bags. Blind-spot side mirrors and MyKey programmable safety features are also standard, as well as Sync connectivity with 9-1-1 Assist service, which automatically summons help to the Lincoln's location after a collision. Options include rain-sensing wipers, reversing camera, articulating headlights, blind-spot information system, cross-traffic alert system, and an adaptive cruise control system with collision warning.

2012 Volvo XC60A 5-passenger compact luxury crossover, the 2012 Volvo XC60 is equipped with 6 air bags, traction control, stability control, 4-wheel-disc anti-lock brakes with brake assist and ready-alert braking, and a City Safety with Pedestrian Detection system. Options include articulating headlights, drowsy-driver detection, lane-departure and blind-spot warning systems, adaptive cruise control system, and Collision Warning with Full Auto Brake technology.
